WHY WE CALLED OFF STRIKE – ASUU (LATEST)

By Anthony Ogbonna: Scawrld News: The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has, Thursday, suspended the over three months-old strike it embarked upon since Sunday, 4th November, 2018. ASUU and FG in meeting The union suspended the strike after a memorandum of Action, MoA, it reached with the Federal government towards the revitalisation of public universities. The ASUU National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi who announced the suspension, however, said that the union had embarked on the strike to “stem the continued slide into rot and decay in public universities since the 1980s.” He however decried the unpatriotic attitudes of some university chancellors whom he said tried to undermine the union’s struggle towards ensuring that universities in the country are revitalised. Consequently, from Imo to Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Anambra, among other states in the country, stealing of pants has been on the increase. BREAKING: AGAIN, FG, ASUU RESUME TALKS OVER STRIKE

GUINNESS BREWERY IN ABA RAZED BY FIRE

With these words, Alero, a female resident of Ubeji area of Warri, told Sunday Vanguard her family’s strategy to escape ritualists on the prowl in Delta State.  It was gathered that undies, particularly of girls between the ages of 16 to 32, are hot cakes for use by ritualists. One pant, according to some residents, sells for as high as two hundred and fifty thousand naira. The price can be higher when the ‘boys’ confirm “ through science that the girl has not done any abortion”, Esther, another resident in the area, said. FG, ASUU’S CAPACITY FOR COMPROMISE

Disagreements between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) now appear unending, unfortunately  ASUU strike  Virtually every administration in the current democratic dispensation has had to grapple with matters that relate to various agitations originating from the ivory tower. Not surprisingly, anytime these two “elephants” fight, the “grasses” under them, especially in the form of students, usually suffer.  Since the most recent strike by ASUU started on November 5, at least seven meetings have taken place between the two parties. While that clearly demonstrates their desire to reach common grounds, a lot more ought to have been achieved within the period.  Happily though, ASUU’s willingness to allow its members to work as ad hoc workers in the forthcoming general election, albeit in their individual capacities, indicates that it might not be belligerent after all.  Much can be learnt from...

SOLDIERS AVERT FARMERS, HERDERS CLASH IN ANAMBRA

ASUU STRIKE CONTINUES, SAYS PRESIDENT, PROF OGUNYEMI

The fate of undergraduates and admission seekers into public universities may continue to hang as the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, yesterday, vowed to continue the nine-week-old strike. This is coming days after the former CDS was gruesomely killed in the evening of December 18, 2018 while returning from his farm along Abuja – Keffi road. The murder, which raised a lot of concern on the security situation in the country occurred after Badeh’s Toyota Tundra truck was riddled with bullets, killing only him out of the three occupants of the vehicle.
